Teach in Thailand for a life enhancing experience that will open your eyes to diverse culture and different ways of life. Thailand is a popular destination for ESL teachers, but few get to really explore beyond the tourist hot-spots of the south and north due to the ease and availability of teaching positions in these more developed regions.
If you’re on a quest for authentic culture and traditional living distant from western influences then the YESasia Teach in Thailand Program offers you a reliable means to doing so in the untouched beauty of rural northeast Thailand. Our programs provide a progressive route to semester and yearlong paid positions teaching English with government and private schools in northeast Thailand.
As a YESasia participant you will work towards becoming a certified TESOL teacher with UK accredited institute Frisby College, whilst having the peace of mind knowing that you have a guaranteed teaching position waiting for you in Thailand upon certification.
Understand Your Options
There are various ways to teach in Thailand. Knowing the reality of what’s available and how to access the best opportunities based on your qualifications, teaching experience and expectations is the most important step to a successful career teaching.
Contrary to what some organizations suggest, if you are a native English speaker and have successfully completed high school level education there are great opportunities available to teach. An issue that confuses many people and limits eligibility to teach with some schools is whether you have a degree or not.
Degree vs Non-Degree Teaching
Whether you have a degree will dictate the types of EFL teaching jobs and schools you can be legally employed by in Thailand. The differences in demand and availability of English teachers across Thailand means conditions are not the same in each region. The demand for English teachers in northeast Thailand is high and because of this YESasia offers Teach Thailand Programs for both degree and non-degree holders to help meet this demand.
You do not need any teaching experience to enrol on our Teach Thailand Programs as full TESOL training and assessment with professional instructors from Frisby College is included. We do however appreciate that some participants may be joining us from a mainstream teaching background or have some previous TEFL training and this is taken in to consideration.
Program Selection Guide
Select the best program for you based on your qualifications, experience and any previous TEFL training.
Basic TEFL Training - 60 hours or less Certification
Intermediate TEFL Training - Over 60 hours Certification
Our Teach Thailand Programs are popular because they guarantee participants a paid EFL teaching position in Thailand at the time of enrollment. This means regardless of whether you enrol 2 months or 6 months before our annual intake dates, you'll have the peace of mind knowing that as long as you complete all TESOL training there is a secure job waiting for you once you arrive in northeast Thailand.
Day to day teaching
Once certified as a TESOL Teacher you will immediately start your full-time teaching position at a YESasia network school in northeast Thailand. You will be given your own weekly schedule of duties and a class timetable for lessons Monday-Fridays. A typical schedule will require EFL teachers to teach a mixed range of ages and grades throughout the week. Although the majority of lessons you teach will be English language you will also be involved with teaching other subjects that require curriculum delivery in both English as well as Thai. These may include subjects like Sciences or Maths. Depending on whether you are placed with a government or private school will generally dictate what subjects and how many teaching hours of each subject are required to be taught in English. In addition to main subject areas Thai students must participate in several elective classes or enrichment activities and EFL teachers are required to assist in supervising during these times.
Embrace school culture
Thai schooling can be very different compared to schooling in other countries, particularly in the West. With heavy influence from Thailand's Royal Monarchy and Buddhist culture you'll experience a very flexible calendar of special ceremonies, activity days and school camps throughout the year to keep you on your toes. It's these unique quirks and cultural differences that attract so many EFL teachers to Thailand. In addition to your weekend breaks enjoy as much as 30 days extra paid vacation a year due to Buddhist holidays. Prime time to get out and explore more of the local culture, fascinating temples and beautiful countryside.
