VOLUNTEER IN THAILAND
Get Inspired with YESasia
Volunteer in Thailand with YESasia and experience so much more about authentic culture and real way of life. There are many opportunities to support volunteer work in Thailand, but few move beyond being just an alternative source of revenue for international organizations and Thailand’s tourist driven regions. If you’re looking to get the most out of your journey through Thailand, connecting with communities on a deeper level and developing a real appreciation for authentic daily life, then central and northeast Thailand offer something other regions can’t.
Volunteering through a YESasia community project is not service holiday, it's an opportunity to immerse yourself in a worthwhile cause, whilst experiencing authentic culture safely. First off we’re not an international non-profit, we're a local organization dedicated to making change through cultural engagement and educational value for youth. Our programs give you the chance to experience a rare take on what life is really like for many people living across rural Thailand.
As a YESasia volunteer you will join one of our regional community projects across central and northeast Thailand where economic development has had less of an impact and life is still very traditional. You will work alongside local staff and other volunteers on a daily bases to help projects meet ongoing demand in their service area.

Upon arrival at Bangkok International Airport you will connect for your domestic travel to your volunteering location. For volunteering in Ubonratchathani and Surin we advise flying to Ubonratchathani as this doesn’t require an airport transfer and only takes an hour. From here a minibus service is available for participants. Alternatively there are train and bus services available which although take much longer will give you an opportunity to see lots of Thailand’s countryside. For volunteering in Kanchanaburi a minibus service direct to the location is available for participants.
Volunteer placements are available weekly for periods ranging 1-12 weeks depending on the program you choose. Volunteer teaching programs have a minimum duration of 2 weeks and are closed March to May. Participants arrive Sunday giving time to settle in and prepare before Monday start and the week ahead.
Typically all programs follow a schedule of volunteering days Monday-Saturday with Sunday free for you to explore the local area or just relax. Although volunteering days are quite long to meet the demands of the project areas they serve, they are broken up well with lots or breaks and periods throughout the day for you to get to know other volunteers and staff. The atmosphere at all our volunteer locations is very relaxed and welcoming.
Living as a Volunteer
For some volunteers adjusting to different life and culture can be challenging at first. We make sure that all YESasia participants have the support and encouragement to get out and experience as much of the local area as possible. Meeting people and being able to immerse yourself in what life is really like in each region is equally as important for fully appreciating your Thailand experience.
The central and northeastern regions of Thailand each have very distinctive cultural stamps. We help guide you to embrace these, with opportunities to try traditional foods, customs and learn about Thailand’s rich heritage. Whether it’s exploring the local night market with new friends or waking up early to join staff in giving food to local monks, we go that extra step to ensure you experience authentic Thailand.
Our accommodation is comfortable but basic. We provide shared and twin rooms with each program and these are allocated based on availability and the number of volunteers each week. Accommodation includes a comfortable bed, storage with shared access to amenities, air conditioning and wifi. We do our upmost to accommodate friends and small parties together where possible. Volunteer elephant care programs require participants to share rural style housing which doesn’t include air conditioning. Floor standing fans and insect nets are provided with this accommodation setup.
There is a great choice for meals with food and communal eating being very important in Thai society. Meals typically consist of a main dish served with steamed rice or noodles and soup. The cost of food and eating out at local restaurants is very affordable if eating traditionally. There is a good range available for vegetarians or participants with special dietary needs. For programs that include lunch meals there is less choice but meals are always fresh, tasty and nutritious.
